Muscat: Oman has detained a group of expatriates for participating in a public gathering in violation of Supreme Committee decisions.
"The North Sharqiyah Police Command stopped a group of expats for gathering in violation of the decisions of the Supreme Committee. Legal procedures are being completed against them," a statement from the Royal Oman Police said.
Omani authorities announced a night-time lockdown on October 11 as part of its ongoing measures for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
A number of new decisions were taken by the Supreme Committee for dealing with COVID-19 including prohibition of movement and lockdown of all public places and commercial outlets from 8 pm to 5 am, a ban on the use of beaches until further notice, and the closure of businesses which failed to observe preventative guidelines put in place by the authorities.
The new measures were revealed after extensive studying of reports and an unprecedented rise in hospital wards and intensive care unit occupancies.
