The first 32-lap race for the F2 championship has begun at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Callum Illota, currently standing at second in the championship, revved up from pole position and is hoping to cover the 22-point spread between him and championship leader Mick Schumacher, son of renowned racer Michael Schumacher.
Results of the F2 championship are closely watched by F1 team principals to recruit rising talents into the F1 series.
This is the first of two F2 races scheduled for this weekend's penultimate round of racing.
The final feature races will be held next weekend as part of the F1 Rolex Sakhir Grand Prix weekend.
