Al Najma deservedly claimed third place in the Bahrain Handball League after defeating Al Shabab 31-25 in the third place play-off last night at the assocaition’s hall in Um Al Hassam.
Al Najma’s hopes of defending their title were shattered after they failed to qualify for the final.
They lost to Al Ahli 22-21 in the semifinal while Al Shabab were defeated by Barbar 30-27.
Yesterday’s match, which kicked off at 7pm, saw Al Najma start strong and claim a good lead to end the first half 16-12.
However, Al Shabab, who have never won the league title, stayed at the back during the second half giving their opponents the upper hand.
The Bahrain Handball League is set to see its second final tomorrow between Al Ahli and Barbar.
Al Ahli, who are the record holders winning the league title 17 times, managed to overcome Barbar in the first final 24-23.
Tomorrow’s match will take place at the association’s hall in Um Al Hassam and is set to kick off at 7pm.
The match will be attended by General Organisation for Youth and Sports general secretary Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
The match will also be attended by members of the Asian Handball Association as the draw for the Youth Handball Championship which will take place in Bahrain in August.
