An Irish author, who has been living in Bahrain for almost three decades, is set to release his second book.
Martin Hughes, a music and drama teacher at Naseem International Elementary School, released his first book Hometown in 2013.
His second book, Luke Miller, was published last month and serves as the sequel to Hometown.
“It was published last month but I’m waiting for three book reviews to come back before it goes on sale,” Mr Hughes told the GDN.
“The storyline is about sudden family changes and being caught up with international criminals.”
As the title would suggest, the storyline follows Luke, who had the perfect family but was having problems at school with a bully.
Following his parent’s break-up and school suspension, Luke decides to spend a week in the Everglades but gets lost after a hurricane suddenly hits.
Weeks pass and he finally gets found on a remote island by Adam, a prisoner to a gang in hiding.
“My inspiration for this book came after getting lost in the great Florida Everglades and the connection to Hometown deep in the story,” said Mr Hughes.
“The characters are totally fictional.”
Until Luke Miller is released on book shelves in Bahrain, Hometown is currently available in Jashanmal located in City Centre Bahrain and Seef Mall, as an e-book on www.amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble.
Hometown’s main protagonist is Ryan Bradley, who is on the run from the British and Irish police. “He ends up in Amsterdam and gets recruited by an international criminal gang,” explained Mr Hughes.
“After months of training and a major heist in the Middle East, he eventually ends up back at his hometown in Ireland, where he has one more job to do.
“As he tries to keep from getting caught by the police, he fights for his life and the secrets from his past.”
Mr Hughes chose to pursue his passion for writing following an unfortunate accident several years ago.
“After I permanently severed the tendon in my hand five years ago, I decided that was the time to complete the script I began during the Gulf War in 1991,” he said.
“Like many other things in my life, I just decided that I wanted to do it, although I have always loved books, reading and writing.”
Both Hometown and Luke Miller have been written for people of all ages who enjoy an exciting yet easy read.
“I hope that people find my books an enjoyable read with a good connection to the characters,” added Mr Hughes.
“I would like them to be thinking about the characters after they’ve finished reading the book.”
