Muscat: A grant has been awarded to the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) for its work to protect Oman’s Vultures.
Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) awarded the grant during its 25th anniversary year, to continue providing critical support to community-led conservation efforts globally, Times of Oman reported.
A number of raptor species have made the sultanate their home and their declining populations are a cause for concern.
These species include the Egyptian Vulture, the Steppe Eagle and the Lappet-faced Vulture.
Initial fieldwork will commence in February 2021 in Muscat and surrounding areas, as well as the Island of Masirah.
