Riyadh: Saudi has elected Deemah Alyahya as secretary-general of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), making her the first woman to hold the position in the country.
Launched just last year, the DCO is a global organisation aimed at strengthening cooperation across all innovation-driven areas and accelerating the growth of the digital economy.
It was founded by Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, with two new founding members added recently, namely Nigeria and Oman.
The DCO's first meeting was chaired by Saudi Communications and Information Technology Minister Abdullah Al-Swaha, attended by International Communication Union secretary-general Houlin Zhao, GCC secretary-general Dr Nayef Al-Hajraf, World Economic Forum president Borge Brende and representatives of different UN programmes.
