Trenton: A group of Alexander Hamilton enthusiasts say that a tale long told about Hamilton isn't true.
The story: that Martha Washington named her feral tomcat after the nation's first treasury secretary.
A group dedicated to studying Hamilton will gather Thursday in New Jersey. One of the researchers, Michael Newton, says that he has traced the story to a piece of satire written by a man described as a British captain.
The tale is included in a song in the hit Broadway show "Hamilton" and in the biography that it's based on.
Thursday's event is part of a series of Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society events around New York and New Jersey through next week to celebrate his life.
