  • <p>The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) students claimed the under-17 and under-19 boys and under-19 girls chess titles in the CBSE Cluster Sports Tournament held recently. In the CBSE Bahrain Cluster Volleyball Tournament, the ISB under-19 team won the title defeating Asian School in straight sets. In the CBSE Bahrain Cluster Girls and Boys Table Tennis Tournament, ISB under-14 girls and under-19 girls won the championships. ISB under-17 girls and under-19 boys teams were runners-up.   • <p>Muharraq Club weightlifters returned home after bagging 92 medals (56 gold, 30 silver, 6 bronze) in the second West Asian Master, Senior, Junior and Under-16 Championship in Amman, Jordan. Female weightlifters won the championship in the Senior and Under-16 categories and finished second in the Junior class. The male senior weightlifters ranked third overall, while Under-16 and the Junior teams finished second.</p>

  • <p>Pupils from KG Kids pre-school celebrated International Day of Peace at their campus in Riffa. The campus was decorated in white as a symbol of peace and love and children sang songs in Arabic and English. The school’s Arabic head teacher Sameera AlKabir gave a presentation encouraging peaceful attitudes and the event ended with school director Janet Lanceley setting a white dove free.   • <p>A donation of BD400 has been presented to the BSPCA’s Animal Welfare Centre by students from New Millennium School-DPS. The funds were raised through the New Millennium Model United Nations Conference 2019, which hosted around 250 delegates from five schools across Bahrain. School chairman Dr Ravi Pillai, managing director Geetha Pillai and principal Arun Kuumar Sharma appreciated the students for their gesture.   • <p>During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed Mr. Chishti, expressing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pride in the close historical relations with the United Kingdom and its keenness to further develop these relations for the benefit of both countries. He also noted the UK’s determined efforts in promoting tolerance and coexistence among different peoples, wishing Mr. Chishti further success.</p><p>For his part, Mr. Chishti expressed his pride in meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressing the UK’s interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain at all levels.   • <p>New board members have been elected for the labour union at Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). </p><p>Nineteen candidates contested for seven seats. The elected members are Tarek Al Mazlouk (229 votes), Abdullatif Showaiter (179 votes), Yacoub Youssef (156 votes), Elham Janahi (155 votes), Ghassan Al Rayes (153 votes), Yousef Al Bastaki (149 votes), and Hamad Al Mubarak (144 votes).
