  • Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa yesterday met Bahrain Credit chief executive Adel Hubail at Bahrain National Museum. They discussed co-operation to boost cultural momentum in Bahrain. They also visited the mounds hall at the museum, which was opened by Baca last June after being renovated thanks to the support of many parties, including Bahrain Credit.

  • <p>Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan yesterday met Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi and briefed him about the government’s efforts to expand social care, stressing Bahrain’s strides in promoting child rights and education.   • More than 6,000 new students were welcomed at Bahrain University for the 2018-2019 semester. A two-day orientation was held for the students at the university’s Sakhir campus. The  event also featured a services fair, which showcased the university’s psychological and social counselling, student activities, transportation services, and services for people with disabilities, introductions to the language centres, exemption systems and partial employment. The new students were also given tours of the university’s various buildings and centres during the orientation. University president Dr Riad Hamza, dean of student affairs Dr Osama Jowder and vice-president for academic studies Prof Waheeb Nasser addressed the students.   • Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Secretary-General Hala Al Ansari met French-Gulf Friendship Group chairman Jean Marie Boukil and commended his role in bolstering relations between France and  Bahrain. Bahrain’s Ambassador to Paris Dr Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar, SCW policies and development director-general Shaikha Deena bint Rashid Al Khalifa and Legal Advisor Dr Mohammed Waleed Al-Masri attended.   • <p>Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf yesterday visited the Sa’ada project in Muharraq and inspected the progress of work. He was accompanied by Edamah chairman Khalid Al Rumaihi, chief executive Amin Al Arayedh and other officials. Phase one of the project will provide a dynamic, fully-accessible public waterfront with shaded terraces and parking. There will be seven buildings for lease which will house food outlets, kiosks, a multi-storey carpark and other supporting facilities. Construction work on phase one of the project commenced in July. Work is on track and the project is expected to be completed by next year end, Mr Khalaf said.</p>

The key to the car was handed over by BFC general manager Pancily Varkey during a ceremony held in front of the company’s Manama branch.   • <p>Eleven Korean dishes will be exhibited this Friday at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa. It is part of the 2018 Korean Cuisine Week hosted by the Korean Embassy and the hotel. Visitors to the hotel’s Friday brunch at Al Fanar Restaurant are to expect a variety of Korean food such as Hobakjuk (pumpkin porridge), Oinaengguk (chilled cucumber soup), stir fried glass noodles and vegetables known as Japchae and other popular dishes. Two Korean master chefs, Jaesung Noh and Sunmyung Lee, were also invited from Korea to offer a four-day cooking class to the hotel’s chefs along with local chefs.   • <p>A renewed call for closer Arab co-operation in the face of regional security threats has gone out from His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. At a meeting with senior officials at Gudaibiya Palace, the Premier added a collective effort was required in Bahrain to achieve citizens’ aspirations. He said such challenges required awareness, drawing lessons from the past and present, and consolidating social cohesion. The Prime Minister also warned against ongoing attempts to undermine regional security, stressing serious challenges had impacted the region’s security and stability. He called for more pan-Arab work to protect resources and people’s right to a decent and more secure life.</p>

  • <p>A delegation from the Health Ministry is in Riyadh to check on the conditions of eight Bahrainis injured in a car crash last week. Two people from the same family died in the crash that happened last Wednesday in Al Quwayiyah. Two others who were injured have already returned to Bahrain after their health condition stabilised. Seven members of the family, who were injured, are receiving treatment at Al Shumaisi Hospital and Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital in Riyadh, while one woman is being treated at the Al Quwayiyah Hospital and will be transferred to Riyadh soon.   • <p>Participants in a charity bike ride have raised more than BD2,500 for cancer patients in Bahrain. Forty-eight people took part in the event held at The Westin City Centre Bahrain. They were from the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, The Westin City Centre Bahrain, Le Meridien City Centre Bahrain and Marriot Executive Apartments.
