He thanked France for taking part in Bahrain International Airshow 2018 which, he said, reflects deep-rooted and outstanding relations between the two countries. The King expressed respect for French President Emmanuel Macron for his keenness to bolster relations of friendship with Bahrain, praising France’s active role and contribution, alongside the international community, to promote regional and international peace and stability.</div>

  • <p><em>Officials preparing for today’s FEI General Assembly</em></p><p><em><br></em></p><p>THE General Assembly of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) will begin today in Bahrain with more than 300 officials from over 100 countries taking part.</p><p>The three-day event will begin with a meeting of the executive office of FEI before voting on several decisions.</p><p>The administrative and financial reports will be discussed during the meeting.</p><p>A series of meetings of the continental federations and the geographical groups that form the EFI will be held on the sidelines of the General Assembly to identify the latest developments in equestrian sports and horse racing.</p><p>Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, first vice-president of FEI, welcomed the guests yesterday and praised the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), and his interest in supporting FEI.</p><p>It’s widely expected that the current president of FEI Ingmar De Vos will be re-appointed unopposed for another four-year-term due to his reputation among the member countries, thanks to the work he has done in the past four years.</p><p>The hottest issue to be discussed in the General Assembly is the cancellation of the World Endurance Championship in Tryon City, North Caroline, earlier this year.</p><p>Members will debate the results of the investigation of the Commission of Inquiry that was formed following the cancellation.</p><p><em><br></em></p>

  • <p>Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani yesterday received Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions (HCE) executive manager Ronnie Middleton, in the presence of HEC director general Jubran Abdulrahman and public affairs director Ahmed Suleiman. The meeting focused on key issues related to the development of the exhibition industry in Bahrain. The minister stressed the government’s keenness to lay the basis and strategies to develop this key economic sector to boost its contribution to the gross domestic product.</p>

  • <p>An exhibition featuring works of nine artists was launched at the Albareh Art Gallery, Adliya. ‘Conversations with Self’ is an intimately personal exhibition where each artist engages the viewer in their own inner world, challenging them to sense the artist’s own reality. Artists featured are Mohammed Al Mahdi, Mai Al Moataz, Hussein Al Mohasen, Jamal Al Yousif, Afshan Davenshar, Reza Doust, Mazen Khaddaj, Olivier Moriette and Camille Zakharia.   • <p>His Majesty King Hamad yesterday received at Sakhir Palace Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov and reviewed solid relations and co-operation. The King praised his successful visit to Bahrain last year, lauding his keenness to strengthen relations. Mr Kadyrov highlighted his country’s interest in promoting ties with Bahrain, and commended the kingdom’s growth under the royal leadership. He pointed out Bahrain International Airshow’s success and investment and trade opportunities it provides. The King hosted a luncheon in honour of the Chechen delegation.</p>

  • <p>His Majesty yesterday met SAP Africa innovation head Dr Adriana Marais, who is in Bahrain to attend Bahrain International Airshow. The King lauded Dr Marais’ efforts in science and technology. He also pointed out the significance of the participation of major Arab and international aviation companies in the air show, which, he said, has greatly contributed to its success.</p>

The King praised the FEI president’s efforts to upgrade the sport, noting Bahrain’s regional and global equestrian achievements and its participation in international competitions. He took pride in Bahrain’s purebred Arabian horses accepted by the World Arabian Horse Organisation. The King expressed Bahrain’s keenness to further boost cooperation with the FEI, pointing out the equestrian sport’s role in strengthening friendship and building bridges of communication between nations.</p>

  • <p>Three UK military veterans ended their visit to Bahrain with a trip to the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS 2018). Chelsea Pensioners John Griffiths, aged 73, Peter Henry, aged 71, and 68-year-old Hugh Craig were guests of the Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF) to mark Armistice Day. They have attended British Embassy functions and visited schools and other places of interest. At Nadeen School, Manama, they enjoyed a traditional English morning tea with scones, jam, and cupcakes decorated like poppies followed by a special Remembrance Day assembly which featured speeches and poetry recitals. The war veterans also visited the Brownie Girls at Dilmun Club and the British School of Bahrain. The highlight of their visit was laying a wreath at a memorial service to mark Remembrance Day, besides attending the Poppy Ball organised in support of the Chelsea Pensioners Appeal and the Children and Mothers Welfare Society Bahrain.   • <p>The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) presented a BD10,000 grant to Al Mabarrah Al Khalifia Foundation (MKF) in recognition of its efforts to support education and empower youth. The cheque was handed over during a meeting between MKF board of trustees secretary Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa and NBB treasury, capital markets and wealth management chief executive Hussain Al Hussaini. “This grant reflects the special ties between public and private sector entities and NGOs in Bahrain and we hope this relationship will be further developed in the future to achieve our mutual goals,” said Shaikha Hala. The presentation was also attended by MKF Youth Programmes head Fatima Al Jar, NBB board secretary Nasser Nasser and compensations and benefits head Shafi Al Mannai.   • <p>The Rotary Clubs in Bahrain and friends raised $10,000 for victims of devastating floods in Kerala, India. The money will be sent to the Rotary Club of Cochin to distribute among families needing help. Torrential rains in Kerala took 483 lives in August and left close to a million people displaced. This came as he received Omani Ambassador Abdulla bin Rashid Al Medelwi. The Premier hailed steadily-growing relations. He lauded the Sultanate’s advancement, progress and prosperity under the leadership of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, stressing Bahrain’s keenness to further consolidate the co-operation and open new areas to serve the shared aspirations of both countries.

  • <p>Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, celebrated the arrival of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner inaugural flight to Bangkok, which will now operate permanently on the airline’s direct daily flights between Bahrain and the Thai capital. Bahrain’s Ambassador to Thailand Ahmed Abdulla Alhajeri, and Ghassan Ahmed Almuharaqi, deputy head of mission of Bahrain in Thailand, attended the event. Gulf Air’s country manager in Bangkok Khalid Ahmed Abdulrahman and top civil aviation and airport executives were present.</p>

The four-day conference, ‘Migration, Trafficking in Persons and the Asian Diaspora’, was organised by the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) at the Church of Christ auditorium in Bangkok. During the event, YMCA Bahrain president Soman Baby spoke about different legislations in Bahrain that protect the rights and welfare of expatriates.   • <p>The benefits of walking for health, physical fitness and mood were stressed at a dedicated workshop held at the National Stadium in Riffa by Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) Olympic Academy. It was presented by international instructor Pori Primoz, who highlighted the importance of walking, air exercises and mental exercises.   • <p>Children&rsquo;s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety on&nbsp;November 14, 2018&nbsp;by the&nbsp;students and teachers of the New Millennium School-DPS Bahrain. Students, spent a memorable day at school-enjoying the special assemblies and a number of class activities conducted by the teachers.</p>
<p>The entire campus came alive with games and activities specially organized for the children. They were enthralled to see their teachers performing on stage in the special assembly conducted on the theme, &lsquo;Make the World a Better Place&rsquo;. On this special occasion, the teachers pledged to continuously strive to work for the welfare of the students.</p>
