  • <p>Ten travel agencies were honoured in an annual ceremony held by Global Travel and Tours last night. The first online travel agency catering to all non-IATA travel agents has been in Bahrain since November 2017. The annual celebration was held at Rotana Downtown and was attended by Alireza Group chairman Salahuddin Alireza and managing director Faisal Alireza along with other officials and staff. The top travel agents and corporate accounts awarded were Aldeyar Travel, Travellers Guide, safar.com, Al Azzam Group, Trace - B, IBN Khalid, Ansar Gallery, &amp; Sanabel, Emco and Alrowad Travel. “The popularity of our B2B online portal can be measured by the growing membership,” said Global Travel chief executive Suhaib Kidwai. “We have more than 47 travel agents and corporate accounts on board so far and the aim of the company is to bring the entire Bahrain non-IATA community on board by the end of 2019.” Above, winners with officials at the ceremony.</p>

  • <p>A Bahrain-based eye surgeon has delivered a keynote speech at a major scientific conference in India. Dr Nitul Bhatt addressed more than 20,000 delegates from around the world at the 76th Annual Conference of the All India Ophthalmology Society in Indore. It was held to mark 200 years of ophthalmology in India. He spoke about the ‘End Point of Vitrectomy Surgery’. Dr Bhatt is a senior Vitreoretinal surgeon at the Dr Haifa Eye Hospital with more than 22 years of experience in Bahrain. Above, Dr Bhatt addressing delegates.</p>

The seven-year-olds were briefed on the importance of a safe and secure environment, how to tackle emergency situations, use of different fire extinguishers and the necessary precautions to be taken to avoid incidents.   • <p>An annual desert camp was held for orphans and widows under the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO). It included a traditional cuisine cooking competition, yoga session, a happiness and positivity segment, and a fashion workshop for the little girls along with games organised in collaboration with the Bahrain Athletics Association. The event aimed to provide a relaxing environment for the mothers while showcasing their cooking talents in a fun-filled family atmosphere.   • <p>More than 30 students attended a 3D scanning workshop organised by Kingdom University. Organised in collaboration with Northstar Technologies, it included practical and theoretical aspects of the technology. Lecturers reviewed and demonstrated the various possibilities of the 3D scanner to students and teachers of the Architecture and Design faculties. The workshop was led by FARO Swiss Holding GmbH Construction BIM Middle East sales engineer Dean Phelan. It aimed to introduce participants to modern technology that saves time and effort while obtaining accurate survey information to be analysed. The workshop was divided into three segments – theory, practice and building informational modelling. After the workshops, the trainers were honoured by academic affairs vice-president Prof Nader Al Bastaki.   • <p>Pottery, metalworking, textile-weaving, gypsum-engraving and other traditional handicrafts were on display during a handicrafts festival yesterday. It was held at the Bahraini Farmers Market at Budaiya Botanical Garden and also included a display of henna, traditional hot drinks and various activities for children. It was organised by the Agriculture and Marine Resources Directorate of the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry in co-operation with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. Forty farms, six farming companies, 15 bee-keepers and 54 restaurants and cafés are taking part in the seventh edition of the market which has attracted thousands of people.   • <p>Colourful flowers and shrubs were on display during the launch of Bahrain’s weekly flower market yesterday. The market, at Hawrat A’ali, will run every Saturday until March 30 from 8am to 3pm. It is organised by the Bahrain Development Bank and includes a display of flowers, shrubs and plants. Above, stands displaying shrubs and flowers for sale at the festival.</p>

  • <p>A gala dinner marking Chinese New Year was hosted by Dragon City at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa. A speech about last year’s achievements and plans for 2019 was delivered by the mall’s operating company Chinamex chairman Patrick Zheng Shou, who welcomed guests including Chinese Ambassador Anwaer and Bahraini Chinese Friendship Society president Jawad Al Hawaj, in addition to dignitaries, business partners and media representatives.   • <p>Cyclists got in the saddle to raise awareness during an Annual Autism Bike Race and Family Fun Day. It was organised by Alia Centre for Early Intervention at Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Park, Hidd. Participants took part in a variety of cycling competitions, while children received instruction on riding a bike. Activities took place under the patronage of Bahrain Cycling Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa.</p>

  • <p>A workshop on the roll-out of value-added taxes (VAT) in Bahrain and its impact on businesses and SMEs was organised by government-run business support agency Tamkeen with support from cloud accounting solutions provider Sage.</p><p>A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion moderated by Sage Middle East strategic sales manager Ibrahim Parwaz.</p><p>The panel of experts included Tamkeen’s chief of planning and monitoring Dr Jarmo Kotilaine, Bahrain SMEs Society chairman Dr Abdulhasan Al Dairi and Kenz Consultancy managing partner Husam Addin Abdelhafiz.</p>

The concert, organised by the Art of Living (AOL) Bahrain, took place at Al Jawahara Centre, Salmaniya. He is a global name in Indian devotional music and performed hymns, as well as his own compositions, for an invited audience. He also surprised fans with a segment of classic Hindi songs dedicated to the expatriate community on Valentine’s Day. He was accompanied on flute by Saumyajyothi Ghosh. An active AOL enthusiast, Hazra supports several community development projects of the International Association for Human Values.</p>
