  • <p>Two employees of Y K Almoayyed and Sons won honours at the Nissan regional skills contest held in Dubai. Ahmed Ali and Jijo Thomas won second place in Service Advisor Excellence Competency Award and Parts Executive Excellency Competency Award categories, respectively. Mr Thomas also secured a special award in the Order Taking category. The contest is a regional platform to constantly challenge every front office personnel to perform to the best of their abilities and raise the bar of excellence in their area of operations.   • <p>A special Japanese award for people contributing to bilateral relations with Japan was conferred on the late Mubarak Kanoo, former president of the Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Soceity. Mr Kanoo’s daughter Mona Kanoo received the ‘Order of Rising Sun’ on behalf of her father at a function hosted by Japanese Ambassador Hideki Ito at his residence in Barbar. Micky Furtado, Melvin Figreido and Rio Fernandes scored for the winners and Lucas D’Souza netted in the consolation goal for the runners-up in this event organised by Young Goans Club. In the semi-finals, Sporting Warriors beat Snipers FC ‘B’ 3-4, while Ribandar FC ‘B’ downed YGC-B 6-5.   • <div>Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs representative, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president, led the Bahrain Royal Endurance Team yesterday in the 120km race held at Chantilly Racecourse in France. Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy president, West Asian Athletics Asocciation president, and Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) president, was present to witness the Bahraini riders’ participation which is part of their preparations for the upcoming World Endurance Championship to be held in the US. Other participants came from the UAE, France and other European countries.</div>

  • <p>Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza received a delegation from the Royal Emirates, a company specialised in a number of engineering fields, including the development of renewable energy applications. The minister was briefed about activities and programmes of the company and co-operation between the Electricity and Water Authority and the Sustainable Energy Unit in existing and future projects, in particular the marketing of the company’s services in all aspects related to energy, electricity and infrastructure strategies.   • <p>A group of high school students were welcomed by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI Bahrain) to its Busaiteen campus for the Future Nurses programme. Participants took part in a series of interactive sessions on clinical skills, CPR training and the university’s Mobile Diabetes Unit.   • <p>A summer camp will be held at the Sitra Sports and Cultural Club from July 14 to August 16. It will have the capacity for 500 students to take part and will focus on activities such as swimming, photography, sports and educational lectures and field visits to cultural landmarks. It will be launched by Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, and a consultative meeting was held to discuss preparations for the camp, attended by Shaikh Hisham, Sitra Club chairman Ali Al Sawad, area MP Dr Shaikh Abdulmajeed Al Asfoor and other officials.</p>
