<p>Bahraini film production house Blu Steel Films owner Mohammed Fakhro was the guest speaker at a Rotary Club of Salmaniya regular lunch at the Golden Tulip Hotel.&nbsp;</p>

  • <p><em>People donating blood</em></p><p>More than 75 people donated blood at a camp hosted at Salmaniya Medical Complex.&nbsp;</p><div>The event, organised by the Facebook community Bahrain Different Thinkers (BDT), saw the participation of expats and citizens.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The blood collected was donated to the hospital’s blood bank.   • Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer yesterday chaired a meeting of the committee in charge of slashing operational expenditure. The panel discussed proposals and initiatives to achieve fiscal stability and sustainability. It has so far scrutinised 1,200 purchase transactions submitted by ministries and government departments before referring them to the Finance and National Economy Ministry. The Ministerial Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs and Fiscal Balance will approve the transactions, reject them or order their re-evaluation.

  • Ten customers of Ithmaar Bank will pay only half of their loan instalments for a year. The remaining instalment will be paid by the bank for the year as part of the “win six instalments per year” promotion. The draw for the promotion was held at the bank’s headquarters in Seef under the supervision of the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, internal auditors and external supervisors.   • A Bahraini artist held a live painting demonstration on the country’s heritage with specific themes relating to the 1960s.

The two-hour event, held at the Bahrain Artistic Frames Centre in Hoora, was hosted by artist Saud Toorani and attended by other artists and art enthusiasts.

Mr Toorani’s work explores the complexity of social and political relationships in human behaviour, with many of his artworks showcased across Bahrain’s hotels and tourist facilities.Above, Mr Toorani with his painting at the event.

The three-day training targeted the company’s fire warden team and was held at the Civil Defence School in East Riffa.   • A total of 10,000 calendars featuring selected paintings from an art carnival conducted by the Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF) have been released. The paintings were the winning entries from the largest drawing competition, The Faber Castell Spectra 2018, which featured more than 4,000 children from various schools in Bahrain. The calendars, which will be distributed for free to schools, were released by Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha during an event held at the Swiss International Hotel, Seef, which was also attended by the embassy’s second secretary Renu Yadav, ICRF chairman Aruldas Thomas, vice-chairman Dr Babu Ramachandran, general secretary Mehru Vesuvala, competition sponsors and community members. A desktop calendar featuring paintings by adults on the theme “150 years of the Mahatma”, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, was also released at the event.   • <p><i>&nbsp;BMMI has donated BD12,700 to support the construction of the RIA Adult Centre, which will help differently-abled individuals develop crucial life skills in parallel with work experience opportunities. The funds also went towards the purchase of a minibus to help in the transportation of those registered with the centre. Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea was welcomed by AGU president Dr Khalid Al Ohaly, who briefed the official about the services provided at the centre.   • <p>A BULL was injured in a car accident yesterday afternoon.</p><p>Sources said the animal was being transported in a livestock trailer, along with another bull and a cow, when it collided with a car at around 3pm on Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway.</p><p>The animals were being towed by a pick-up driven by a Bahraini, but neither he nor the Asian driver of the car were injured.</p><p>It is believed to have happened when one of the vehicles changed lanes suddenly. The accident caused tailbacks on the highway, particularly as motorists slowed down to view the animals once the vehicles were moved to the side of the road.</p>

The programme featured a workshop over eight weeks to enable young pupils under the age of 18 to develop their communications and leadership skills through practical experience. The meeting headed by society president Adel Al Sitri focused on pending humanitarian cases and ways of speeding up providing them with necessary support other than financial. It also shed light on 1,200 A’ali families under the Housing Ministry’s waiting lists and plans to have them incorporated in upcoming housing projects, mainly in Ramli.   • The grand finale of the BFC-KCA Indian Talent Scan 2018 was held at the Kerala Catholic Association premises in Segaiya. Chief guest was Indian actor Manoj K Jayan, who has starred in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. A total of 675 children from 12 schools took part in the month-long competition that was open to all Indian children in Bahrain. Students from The Indian School topped the list with 276 participants followed by the Asian School (168) and New Millennium School (90). The coveted Kalathilakam award was won by Nakshathra Raj C of the Indian School and the prestigious Kalaprathibha award was won by Shauryaa Sreejit of the Asian School.
