Bahrain Paralympics Committee Secretary General Ali Al Majid attended the event, which was organised by Rotary Club of Salmaniya.   • <p>Paintings depicting the beauty of China were on display at the Confucius Institute in Bahrain University’s Sakhir campus. University president Dr Riyadh Hamza toured the exhibition which was by two visiting Chinese artists along with supporting artwork by five Bahraini artists. The institute opened in 2014 in collaboration with Shanghai University. Above, one of the Bahraini artists showcasing his artwork at the expo.</p>

  • <p>A forum focusing on teachers’ professional development will be held in Bahrain next week. Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa received Education and Skills Director, and Special Adviser on Education Policy to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development&nbsp; (OECD) Dr Andreas Schleicher and reviewed preparations. He announced that Bahrain would also take part next year in the global TALIS educational survey&nbsp; along with 260,000 teachers from 48 countries. Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi attended the meeting.</p>

  • <p>Amad Group of companies conducted a technical seminar at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain. Secom Lighting and Ligman Lighting exhibited their products. Managing director Pambavasan Nair said the seminar was a huge success with more than 400 people attending. “This kind of support and encouragement for Amad drives the team to continue their march towards excellence,” he added.   • <p>Artworks by students of all ages were featured at an exhibition hosted by the New Millennium School (NMS-DPS) Bahrain. ‘Expressions 2019’ was held at the school campus in Zinj and showcased drawings, sketches and paintings by pupils from kindergarten to grade 12. He was accompanied by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UAE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa as well as other senior Bahraini officials. Shaikh Khalid expressed delight at the strong preparation.</p>

  • <p>Hundreds attended the traditional Onam feast, called Onasadya, yesterday at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), Segaiya. It featured 33 traditional vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf by more than 500 volunteers. BKS president P V Radhakrishna Pillai welcomed the guests. He thanked R P Group of Companies chairman Dr Ravi Pillai and other sponsors who supported the event. A total of 2,000kg of vegetables and 600kg of rice were brought in from Kerala for the occasion. Kerala’s celebrity chef Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri and his three-member team supervised the cooking. The event marked the culmination of the country’s largest expatriate association’s month-long Onam celebrations. Above, hundreds enjoyed the Onam feast.</p>

  • <p>A fundraiser for children with special needs was held yesterday at the Funland Centre-Bowling and Ice Skating. “Bowling Challenge for the Challenged”, was organised by the Rotary Club of Salmaniya. It brought together 24 children from various societies including the Down Syndrome Care Centre, Al Sanabel Orphan Care Society and the Bahrain Paralympic Committee. Guest of honour was the Rotary District 2452 governor Shawkat Tadros from Jordan. Proceeds from the event will go towards the purchase of wheelchairs, school bags and other society requirements.   • <p>Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa yesterday visited Al Manar Elderly Daycare Home as part of activities marking International Day of Older Persons. Present were Labour and Social Development Ministy officials and students from Shaikha Hessa Girls School and Hawar International School.
