  • <p>An installation ceremony for committee members of the Kerala Engineers Forum (Keen4) was held at the InterContinental Regency Bahrain. The ceremony for the 21-member committee for 2019-2020 was inaugurated by renowned Malayalam film writer and director Ranjith Shankar and featured a dance performance by children with Keen4’s general secretary Benoy Abraham delivering the welcome address. Keen4 president E K Pradeepan in his speech also outlined their cultural and technical events along with charity initiatives. Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam president P V Radhakrishna Pillai and Keen4 outgoing president Wilson K Lazer congratulated the incoming committee with mementos distributed to all committee members of the previous years. Popular playback singers Hari Shankar and Divya S Menon also performed at the event, which was attended by more than 500 people.   • <p>A sarod concert by legendary Indian classical musician Amjad Ali Khan was held last night. The hour-long show held at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) saw Mr Khan performing melodies including one inspired by the Arab style of music. Held as part of the BKS Business Icon Award 2019, presented to UNEECO chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed Juma, and Soorya Fest 2019, the event took place under the patronage of Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza. Born into a musical family, Mr Khan is regarded as the world’s finest sarod player and has performed internationally since the 1960s. The virtuoso known for his technical ability to play highly complex compositions on the sarod is also the recipient of India’s second highest civilian honour Padma Vibhushan, in 2001.   • <p>Nearly 2,800 students are taking part in a summer camp launched by Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi. Fourteen programmes have been lined up for boys and girls, aged eight to 14, who are gaining skills in education, sport, art, literature, Islamic studies and technology.   • <p>Bahrain-based Arab Architects has won a five-star award for the City Centre Twin Towers development at the International Arabian Property Awards. The firm competed against the best property professionals across Dubai, Africa and Arab region to be recognised in the Best Residential High Rise Architecture category. The towers are 43 storeys tall, featuring one of the tallest masts in the kingdom, at 55 metres. Arab Architects’ founder and managing director Mazen Mohamed Araiqat received the award during a ceremony at Marriott Grosvenor Square in London.</p>

  • <p>The latest batch of students under the ‘Rayaat’ programme by AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation (MKF) have completed their activities and workshops. Sponsored by Tamkeen and directed by Gold Trust Training and Consultancy, the workshops focused on topics such as effective team-building, career protocol and leading highly-efficient teams. The training courses were tailored with the aim of enhancing students’ soft skills such as punctuality, teamwork and performing under pressure. Participants also completed an English language course at Berlitz Bahrain, attended a cooking class by Chef Sara Al Khooheji at The Cooking Studio, a workshop by Injaz Bahrain and jewellery and car mechanic workshops.   • <p>Staff from 70 nurseries and kindergartens attended a workshop on physical illiteracy at Sharifa Al Awadhi Youth and Children Club in East Riffa. Organised by the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport general-secretariat in co-ordination with the Labour and Social Development Ministry, the session was conducted by Bahrain Olympic Academy director Dr Nabeel Taha. In his opening speech, council planning, policies and follow-up director Rashid Al Zayani said targeting children from an early age enables effective implementation of projects and programmes aimed at physical literacy.   • <p>Sixty-six British School of Bahrain (BSB) students took part in the global round of the World Scholar’s Cup in Beijing. The students were part of a delegation of 22 teams in a competition that was attended by more than 220 schools. BSB head coach Yasin Motara received Coach of the Year award while the junior team, consisting of Lucy Hassett, Alma Mahmood and Luna Maronese, were crowned the best team in the Middle East and won the third place overall out of 600 teams. The senior team of Rose Basilious, Kaviesh Kinger and Syed Yousaf Kamran were placed third in the Middle East. Pratham Mehrotra and Kaviesh Kinger were also awarded the school top scholars for BSB in their respective divisions while 10 junior and three senior teams qualified for the Tournament of Champions to be held in November at Yale University in the US.
