<p>Ahmed Mustafa Al Awadhi, a 19-year-old Bahraini and student of Bahrain Institute of Hospitality and Retail&rsquo;s (BIHR) Swiss Diploma in International and Tourism Management Programme, represented the country at the fifth edition of International Young Chef Olympiad.&nbsp;</p>
<div>At the event held in India, Mr Al Awadhi competed with young chefs from 55 countries representing the world&rsquo;s best culinary and hospitality institutions.&nbsp;</div>

  • <p>Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza and Bahrain Society of Engineers president Dr Dheya A Aziz Tawfiqi signed an agreement to hold the &lsquo;International Sustainable Energy Event 2019 (iSEE 2019): Fostering Bahrain&rsquo;s Sustainable Future&rsquo;.</p>
<p>iSEE 2019 will be the first annual event in a new series organised by the Sustainable Energy Unit in partnership with the society.&nbsp;</p>
<div>It will be held under the patronage of Dr Mirza on April 17 and 18 at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa.</div>

  • <p>Disney magic filled the air at a show yesterday at the &lsquo;When You Wish Upon A Star&rsquo; event.&nbsp;</p>
<div>Organised by Bahrain Ballet Centre in association with Royal Bahrain Hospital, the annual dance show saw the Cultural Hall transformed into a magical venue, inspired by Disney through the ages.&nbsp;</div>

<div>The evening featured around 100 talented children and adults aged three to 50.</div>

<div>Audiences were treated to beautifully choreographed dances inspired by Disney favourites, including Cinderella, Pinocchio, Aladdin and Peter Pan.</div>

  • <p>Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza met parliament&rsquo;s financial and economic affairs committee chairman Ahmed Al Amer and members.</p>
<p>He gave a presentation on Bahrain&rsquo;s achievements in renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as projects implemented in this area.</p>
<p>He also spoke of the progress made in encouraging utilisation of clean energy and activating its use for sustainable energy and green environment.</p>

<p>Newly-elected members of the students council of Al Noor International School for 2018-2019 were sworn in at a ceremony at the school&rsquo;s campus in Sitra. Attending were school director Dr Muhammad Mashood, principal Amin Hulaiwah, head teachers and students of selected classes.</p>

<p>Sixty-two outstanding engineering projects were showcased at the Graduation Projects Exhibition of the College of Engineering at Bahrain University.</p>
<p>President Dr Riyadh Hamza said the university continued to keep up with the market demands by launching academic programmes that served different sectors and stimulates sustainable development. He also handed out trophies and certificates of appreciation to the participating students.</p>

<p>Thirty-three students from Lamara Preschool went on a field trip to Bab Al Bahrain to explore the suq and its culture.</p>
<p>They also had a traditional breakfast at Haji Caf&eacute; and took part in handicrafts as part of the pre-school&rsquo;s theme of the month, &lsquo;Bahraini Traditions and Handicrafts&rsquo;.</p>

<p>A total of BD1,034 has been donated to two local organisations that focus on helping labourers in Bahrain.</p>
<p>The money was raised by the British Embassy during a charity carol concert in December.</p>
<p>Cheques were presented to the Migrant Workers Protection Society and Conserving Bounties by UK Ambassador Simon Martin and his wife Sophie at the embassy in Manama.</p>
<p>Conserving Bounties specialises in collecting and packing surplus food from hotels, restaurants and private occasions for distribution to the needy, while the MWPS campaigns on behalf of expatriate workers.</p>

  • <p>A leading Bahrain-based businessman has won one of highest awards granted annually to non-resident persons of Indian origin (NRIs) by the NRI Welfare Society of India.</p>
<p>Exelon and Sara Group managing director Mohammad Mansoor received the Hind Rattan Award at the 38th International Congress of NRIs last Friday on the eve of India&rsquo;s 70th Republic Day in New Delhi.</p>
<p>Mr Mansoor was honoured for community service and raising the profile of NRIs. The congress is held annually in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.</p>

<p>The Special Privilege Card was launched in collaboration with the Bangladesh Embassy and UAE Exchange during a ceremony attended by Bangladeshi Ambassador Major General (retired) K M Mominur Rahman, labour counsellor S M Tauhidul Islam and counsellor M D Robiul Islam.</p>

Chief guest Mohammad Tarique – deputy director, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi - delivered a speech on power plan for career success &amp; how to prepare for competitive exams.   • <p>Schools across Bahrain have started replacing homework with classroom activities to ease the burden on students.&nbsp;</p><div>The procedure, announced by the Education Ministry, took effect yesterday as thousands of students returned to schools after spring holidays for the beginning of the second term.</div><div><br></div><div>Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi toured several schools and inspected the implementation of the new measure.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Under the new system, a daily period would be allocated for reading books and publications related to Arabic and English curricula.</div>

<p>A total of 259 staff members of St Christopher&rsquo;s School attended a 90-minute workshop organised by the Royal Life Saving Bahrain (RLSB).&nbsp;</p>
<div>Topics included&nbsp;chain&nbsp;of survival, primary assessment (checking for breathing), cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillation, management of choking and recovery position.&nbsp;</div>

<div>The school has partnered with the RLSB to provide specialised first-aid courses to equip staff with the skills and knowledge to be able to take control of potentially life-threatening emergencies until professional aid arrives.&nbsp;</div>
