  • <p><em>The Premier receives senior officials</em></p><p><em><br></em></p><p>MANAMA: Bahrain’s people are its real asset, the Premier said yesterday.</p><p>His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa made the remarks when he received religious clerics, intellectuals, cultural and commercial figures, media persons, journalists and citizens.</p><p>He paid tribute to Bahraini people and praised their contributions and patriotic stances.</p><p>He reiterated his keenness to boost citizens’ welfare, stressing that Bahraini people are the nation’s inexhaustible resource and the way to achieve development goals.</p><p>The Prime Minister said the nation is going through a tough phase, stressing the need for unity to face plots and conspiracies. He also pointed out the government’s success in curbing fake degrees, stressing their impact on the future of the educational system.</p><p>He asserted the community’s need, now more than ever before, for a discourse promoting tolerance and coexistence.</p><p>He warned of the repercussions of any extremist discourse on the community, calling for vigilance and unity.</p><p>He also urged to make the best use of technology and social media websites to foster social cohesion and awareness.</p><p>The Premier said Bahrain is at the threshold of a new democratic chapter, calling to support preparations for forthcoming elections.</p><p>“Everyone has to enrich the democratic march and benefit from past lessons in order to achieve common goals,” he said.</p><p><em><br></em></p>

They are warehouse forklift operators Bhaskaran C and Sayed Fattah Ebrahim who completed more than 25 and 19 years of service, respectively; electronics and home appliances sales executive Satish Shukla (23 years), warehouse drivers Ali Al Asfoor (18 years) and Fadhel Ali Habib (15 years), warehouse technician Sadiq Hussain (11 years) and Nissan Service reception driver Abdul Shaheed Salman (10 years).   • <p>Malaysian Ambassador Agus Salim Yusof visited the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) in Busaiteen and met senior officials, including president Professor Sameer Otoom. The visit was part of RCSI’s long-standing educational involvement in Malaysia with two campuses: Perdana University and Penang Medical College.   • <p>The New Millennium School lifted the under-19 boys table tennis title in the CBSE Cluster (Bahrain Chapter) Inter School Competition. NMS-DPS, represented by Amruth Chandra, Jas Gajaria, Rushil Mathur and Siddharth Manakil, defeated Indian School by 3-2 in the final. In the under-14 boys category, NMS, represented by Angad Preet Singh Gaba, Saad Ayub, Ganapathy and Ryan Paul Devassy, defeated Indian School 3-0 in the final.   • <p>Around 250 students spoke about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a model United Nations session yesterday. A number of schools from Bahrain took part in the Al Hekma International School Model United Nations. Guests of honour were German Ambassador Kai Boeckmann, his wife Samira Rofa and UN Development Programme resident co-ordinator and regional representative Amin Al Sharkawi.   • <p>More than 2,000 people took part in a traditional feast hosted by the Indian Club yesterday. The vegetarian “sadya” (feast) served on banana leaf marked the finale of the club’s Onam and Diwali celebrations which commenced on Thursday at its premise in Gudaibiya.   • <p>National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has received a special award from Citi Bahrain for leadership in the payment space. The Citi 2017 Performance Excellence Award is an honour presented to leading financial institutions worldwide, for achieving high rates of Straight-Through Processing (STP). NBB achieved a Treasury STP rate of 99 per cent and Commercial STP rate of 95pc during 2017. Citi Group correspondent banking director Abdul Mohsin Al Mahdi presented the award to NBB chief executive for treasury, capital markets and wealth management Hussain Al Hussaini. NBB head of coverage, corporate and institutional investment banking Ali Abdulkarim; relationship manager financial institutions Amal Safar; head of treasury operations Nabeel Kazim; and Citi head of financial institutions, Bahrain and Kuwait, Omar Kopti were present.</p>

  • <p><em>The Prime Minister with the Indian delegation</em></p><p><em><br></em></p><p><em><br></em></p><p>The Prime Minister yesterday received an Indian business and religious delegation headed by Ajmera company board chairman Rajnikant Shamalji Ajmera.</p><p>The Premier stressed Bahrain’s active contribution throughout history in promoting interfaith and cultural dialogue out of a strong belief in its role to achieve global peace.</p><p>He affirmed that these facts have turned Bahrain into a strategic option for foreign investments, pointing out the favourable climate and facilities provided by the government for investors.</p><p>He also added that Bahrain and India share a common feature of being models of coexistence and religious pluralism which are based on a long history of tolerance.</p><p>The Premier praised religious pluralism in Bahrain which emanates from the spirit of tolerance which has ever characterised the Bahraini people.</p><p>He hailed growing Indian investments in Bahrain through co-operation with the private sector, lauding long and deep-rooted historic relations which are based on mutual respect and keenness to build a strong model of co-operation to serve common interests.</p><p>The BAPS delegation was led by Pujya Bhaktipriya Swami and Pujya Brahmavihari Swami along with members of BAPS Bahrain including the Ajmera brothers, India’s prominent developers.</p><p><em><br></em></p>

  • <p>On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday visited the Kewalram, Asarpota, Haridas, Gajria, Thaker, and Muljimal families to mark Diwali.</p>
<p>Shaikh Isa highlighted His Majesty King Hamad&rsquo;s efforts in promoting the principles of diversity and mutual respect, stressing that the recent launch of the King Hamad Chair in Inter-faith Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence at Sapienza University in Rome, is a shining example of Bahrain&rsquo;s increasing global role in advancing peace and compassion amongst different cultures.</p>
<p>He conveyed the Crown Prince&rsquo;s wishes on the occasion and stressed the importance of the valuable role the kingdom&rsquo;s communities play in Bahrain&rsquo;s development.</p>
