<p>Events-based magazine Bahrain This Month (BTM) celebrated its 21st anniversary this month.&nbsp;</p>
<div>The first issue of the monthly magazine hit shelves on September 8, 1997 making it the first English language monthly lifestyle publication in Bahrain.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>Over the years BTM has spawned several sister publications, including Woman This Month and a range of guides covering the food and beverage industry, health and well-being and education and motoring, which are printed each year.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>Bahrain This Month&rsquo;s history was showcased in the September edition where there is a round-up of the events that have shaped both the island and the magazine.&nbsp;</div>

  • <p>Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received Interpol director Wayne Salzgaber. Shaikh Rashid highlighted the importance of international police co-operation and exchange of expertise. Salzgaber was briefed about the Interior Ministry’s efforts to develop and modernise all security sectors to ensure public safety. Public Security chief Major General Tariq Al Hassan was also present.</p>

  • <p>Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa yesterday took part in a consultative meeting of foreign ministers in New York, prior to the 73rd session of the General Assembly. Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Jordan attended. The meeting aimed at activating Arab role in dealing with various crises in the region.</p>

  • <p>A health awareness campaign was held by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) at Al Fateh Corniche. It featured lectures on healthy practices concerning food and workouts as well as other activities and programmes, including blood pressure and sugar tests. For children there was an entertainment corner which included games, gifts and face paintings. Present at the event was BRCS secretary general Dr Fawzi Amin. Above, a medical check-up camp.</p>

<p>Three senior school students of St Christopher&rsquo;s School were selected for the Summer 2018 French scholarship programme, hosted by the French Embassy in Bahrain.&nbsp;</p>
<div>Vansh Patel and Khushi Kotilaine were awarded their scholarships having applied for them through the school, while Giselle Dias was awarded by the Alliance Fran&ccedil;aise, in recognition of her outstanding performance in the DELF (Dipl&ocirc;me d&rsquo;Etudes en Langue Fran&ccedil;aise) exams last May.&nbsp;</div>

<div>The students represented the school, and Bahrain, in the French Riviera where they had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in French culture and language, while allowing them to meet other students from across the world.</div>

  • <p><em>The students spelling out ‘Freedom’ in Arabic</em></p><p>Students from St Christopher’s Senior School took part in Peace Day activities at their Isa Town campus.&nbsp;</p><div>Some students created a ‘Peace Tree’, each leaf decorated with a quote, while others learnt how to make ‘Peace Lanterns’ and practised by working in pairs to decorate and customise their designs, which were then displayed around the school’s ‘Peace Pole’.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>A minute’s silence was also held before student Lilo Al Dahwi’s winning poem was read.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>They also take part in creating an aerial photo each year, representing a message of peace.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>This year they chose to create the word ‘Alhuriya’ which translates to ‘Freedom’ in Arabic. <p>Fifty orphans experienced human flight at Gravity Indoor Skydiving as part of an event organised by Al Salam Bank Bahrain.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The children, from Al Sanabil Orphan Care Society, had a fun-filled day with Al Salam Bank&rsquo;s &lsquo;Happy Team&rsquo; while experiencing human body flight.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The programme was in line with the bank&rsquo;s corporate social responsibility and was held in co-operation with Gravity Indoor Skydiving, Bahrain&rsquo;s only indoor sky diving experience.</p>
