  • Trade, industry, business and services with the UK were the focus of discussion at the Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF) meeting. Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani delivered the keynote address at the event. BBBF chairman Khalid Al Zayani welcomed the guests of honour – Mr Alzayani and British Ambassador Simon Martin. More than 120 BBBF members and guests attended the event at The Gulf Hotel Convention Centre. Mr Alzayani highlighted the government’s efforts to offer major facilities for all businesses, especially for start-ups and new entrepreneurs.   • Ithmaar Bank, a Bahrain-based Islamic retail bank, has launched a new employee training and compliance initiative aimed at bolstering compliance with regulatory rules and guidelines across the organisation. The Compliance Champions programme will see 48 members of staff from different departments undergo in-house training sessions alongside customised courses. “Compliance is a cornerstone of the banking industry and a prerequisite for delivering quality service to clients,” said chief executive Ahmed Abdul Rahim. Representatives from the bank’s compliance and anti-money laundering department will conduct in-house sessions while other customised courses will be provided by external training providers.   • More than 150 engineers, architects and consultants attended Yateem Air Conditioning seminar at the Gulf Hotel. It was the official launch to acknowledge Yateem Air Conditioning as the new sole Toshiba VRF distributor in Bahrain. The systems called Toshiba variable refrigerant flow (VRF) are known for their high energy performance and can improve energy efficiency both in residential and commercial buildings, saving between 15 to 50 per cent on electrical consumption. The seminar was presented by Jaffar Imam from AHI Carrier and Toshiba Sharjah, and Toshihiro Yamamoto, a senior Toshiba delegate from Japan. The seminar was opened by Yateem Air Conditioning chief executive Joseph Moussa.   • The AAOIFI honoured Kuwait Finance House Group (KFH) in recognition of its sponsorship of the 17th annual Sharia Boards Conference held in Bahrain. KFH-Bahrain managing director and chief executive Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat received the honorary shield. “We are pleased to continue to collaborate with the AAOIFI conference, which sets Sharia standards for Islamic financial institutions.   • Boosting economic co-operation between countries promotes investment and entrepreneurship, the Premier said yesterday. He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to bolster relations with Malaysia and enhance economic partnership, pointing out the promising capabilities of the two countries given the location of Bahrain as a gateway to the Gulf and a regional financial and investment hub. He also underlined the need to take advantage of Malaysia’s capabilities and distinguished status in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). The Premier was speaking as he received  Malaysian Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof.

The expo, in its 13th edition, is a platform to give students exposure to the jobs market and provide an opportunity for them to meet prospective employers. The Dilmun Jewellery Line called ‘Sand of Times and Sea of Blue’ was displayed at Bahrain National Museum’s Gift Shop yesterday.   • Artificial Intelligence Society, in partnership with GEC Media group UAE, held a ceremony in Armani Hotel Dubai to recognise information technology innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders in various categories.   • Bahrainis Nasser Khalifa, Mahmood Yaqoob and Qassim Khamis have become the first in the kingdom to receive accreditation as indoor skydiving flight instructors. They underwent a six-week course at the Gravity Indoor Skydiving in Zallaq. The theoretical and practical training was conducted by a certified teacher from leading wind tunnel producer, Aerodium. Gravity senior instructor Garth Lewis also certified as an examiner. Registration is now open for new applicants.   • A training session was conducted by the Kanoo Paint Centre (KPC) on the Mirka Optimised Surface Preparation for technicians from multiple private companies in Bahrain. The preparation is a net sanding system solution specifically created for automotive refinishing and is simple with a clearly defined process and maximised performance.   • <p>The Arabic team of the Riffa Views International School led by Fuad Al Anzarouti presented a programme, Arabic Under the Stars, to showcase Arabic songs, poetry and stories through the voices and writings of students. Arabic teacher Khulood Saleh sang a song accompanied by Ali Aldairy on the oud while students celebrated the language through Quran recitations, poetry and musical numbers.   • Hundreds of children aged between two and 14 years took part in an event that aimed to encourage outdoor sports. Titled ‘Digital detox’, it was organised by the Royal Bahrain Hospital in co-operation with the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) and Athletic Kings at the BTC in Juffair. The event ‘Harmonious Kerala’, organised by the Gulf Madhyamam daily at the Indian School’s Isa Town grounds, aimed at spreading the message of unity. It was organised as a gesture of thanks for the support the community received from the people of Bahrain, citizens and expats alike, when unprecedented floods hit the south Indian state in August.
