  • <p>Joint co-operation in humanitarian, voluntary and charitable work between Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) and Al Sanabel Orphan Care Society was discussed at a key meeting.</p>
<p>BRCS acting secretary general and director general Mubarak Al Hadi pledged the society&rsquo;s support to all humanitarian and charitable work while orphan society chairman Sheikh Adnan Abdullah Al Qattan expressed keenness to launch joint programmes and initiatives to serve under-privileged people, such as orphans, widows and others.</p>

  • <p>VIVA Bahrain has extended its support to the Bahrain Deaf Society by sponsoring a professional training course on sign language.</p>
<p>It was organised by VIVA Jusoor, the corporate social responsibility arm of VIVA Bahrain.</p>
<p>The four-day course at VIVA Bahrain&rsquo;s headquarters, Seef, was conducted by sign language education and training consultant and vice-president of the Arab Organisation for Sign Language Interpreters Mohammed Al Ramzi.</p>

<p>Two long-serving employees at the YK Almoayyed and Sons (YKA) were bid farewell.</p>
<p>Kolladallil Bhaskaran who worked as a team leader for 37 years and Gulam Qureshi who worked as a denter for 17 years at the Nissan Body Shop were awarded a token of appreciation by YKA managing director Mona Almoayyed. Also present was YKA Group manager Sonu Duggal.&nbsp;</p>

  • <p>A group of female students are being trained in work skills needed to enter the labour market by the Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB).</p>
<p>The training for the students enrolled under Education Ministry&rsquo;s training programme, Takween, aims to prepare and familiarise secondary-level students with the requirements of the modern workforce through hands-on training across a number of departments at the bank.</p>

  • <p>Scores of women took part in an event to celebrate the Indian festival of Karva Chauth. The Punjabis United in Bahrain (PUB) organised the event at the Golden Tulip Bahrain. Karva Chauth is a centuries-old tradition observed annually in north India, where women dress up and fast for the day as they pray for their husband’s health and success.   • <p>A breast cancer awareness seminar was organised by Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Centre, in collaboration with KMCC Bahrain Ladies Wing. It was inaugurated by oncologist and assistant professor of the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Dr K R Rajeev. Also present was Shifa chief executive Habeeb Rahman and other officials. “Timely diagnosis and availing of treatment is necessary to avoid unexpected deaths from cancer,” said Dr Rajeev. “It is important to create awareness on diagnosing cancer early among the public.” Above, guests who attended the seminar at Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Centre.</p>

  • <p>Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa yesterday met Kuwait Finance House (KFH) chairman Hamad Abdulmohsen Al Marzouq, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.</p>
<p>The minister said such meetings provide an opportunity to further strengthen economic co-operation internationally.</p>
<p>He also highlighted the key role banks and financial institutions play in supporting economic development.</p>
<p>Shaikh Salman separately met the External Relations Minister of the Bailiwick of Jersey, Senator Ian Gorst, and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank vice-president and secretary Sir Danny Alexander.</p>

  • <p>Bahrain Football Association (BFA) secretary general Ibrahim Al Buainain yesterday honoured disabled football fan Abdulla Abduljaleel for his patriotic sentiment following Bahrain’s victory over Iran on Tuesday.
