THE Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities is set to open the first car park on Bahrain’s Pearling Path – the kingdom’s second Unesco World Heritage site – in Muharraq on Sunday.
It consists of four multi-storey car parks designed by Swiss architect Christian Kerez to serve as public spaces, with their aesthetic open areas adding attractive features to the old city.
Each storey has a different shape and design, where cars pass at different heights and slopes, giving each floor a special character that is easily recognisable.
It will provide free parking for Muharraq citizens and paid parking for visitors. The structures can together accommodate nearly 1,000 cars, and will also be used for concerts and performances.
