Bahrain Cricket Federation’s (BCF) initiatives to empower women through sports received global recognition yesterday at the ICC’s annual conference in Birmingham as BCF received the award for the Female Cricket Initiative for 2021.
The award was received by BCF president Hatim Dadabai along with advisory council chairman Mohammad Mansoor and chief development officer Gurumurthy Palani.
The BCF said that the award comes as a result of the its efforts to build a robust community of women cricketers, to establish a pipeline of youngsters to build the sport from grassroots in schools and clubs, and prepare a strong national women’s team for Bahrain – a project which resulted in breaking several world records in the team’s first tour abroad.
The federation added that this was possible as the team was guided by the vision of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
