The British Antarctic Survey announced the discovery of a new penguin colony in Antarctica after they observed guano stains from satellite images.
The new colony- the 66th on the ice shelf- was discovered by scientists when they observed the tell-tale faeces accumulations, called guano stains on satellite images from the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission and Maxar’s WorldView-3 satellite.
The penguins are thought to be living at Vergler Point in Antarctica, which scientists have identified as a previously unknown breeding site.
