Matias Palacios and Jonatas Santos brought some splendid South American flavour to the Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Stadium in Abu Dhabi last night as the two midfielders combined to push Al Ain to a 3-1 win over Muharraq in a friendly game last night.
Santos, the 21-year-old Brazilian, set the tone for things to come for the home side by getting Al Ain 1-0 up on the scoreboard in just the fifth minute of the game.
After Muharraq’s Faras Shawat scored the equaliser 19 minutes later, it was time for the Palacios show.
The Argentine, also 21, showed why he is so highly regarded as he showed off his talent to help Al Ain go 2-1 up in the 38th minute.
Later, in the second half, Palacios demonstrated his skilful footwork some more by scoring his second goal of the night in the 71st minute with Al Ain now 3-1 ahead and Muharraq under the pump.
The Bahraini club tried manfully to equalise somehow as the match ticked into almost 10 minutes of injury time but the evening was meant to belong to Al Ain and their two young South American stars.
