The Bahrain International Series Badminton Tournament 2023 got off to a thrilling start at the Indian Club yesterday.
Spectators witnessed thrilling matches right from the start as Indian Club and Bahrain returned to top-class international badminton action.
More than 225 internationally ranked players from 22 different countries have arrived in Bahrain for what will be the kingdom’s largest ever International Series event, all looking for valuable world ranking points and also qualifying points for Olympic 2024. The top 80 ranked men’s singles player Viren Nettasinghe from Sri Lanka is also participating in the tournament.
There will be one more day of qualifying matches today and the participants look to play their way into the main draws, which are scheduled to take place from tomorrow through to Sunday’s Grand Finale.
Practice has been fairly hectic over the last two days as players look to acclimatise to the club’s courts. The tournament referees arrived on Sunday and as part of their pre-tournament checklist; they inspected the venue and held a team managers’ meeting.
