CRICKET – FORMER top Indian pace bowler and present ICC match referee Javagal Srinath will be the chief guest at the finals of the KSB Champions Trophy 7-a-side softball cricket tournament organised by Kannada Sangha Bahrain on Friday.
The tournament, which started on June 6, has attracted 34 teams and played in three categories - Men’s, Ladies and Boys Under-16.
Winning teams and individual performances in each match receive awards and prizes.
The final of the tournament will be held at 7.30pm on Friday under floodlights at the Indian Club premises.
Prior to the final, a felicitation ceremony will be organised for Srinath at KSB’s Kannada Bhavana auditorium. Indian Ambassador Vinod Jacob will be the chief guest at the event that starts at 5.30pm.
Srinath is considered among India’s finest fast bowlers, and was the first Indian paceman to take more than 300 wickets in One-Day Internationals. He is the second Indian after 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev to take 200 Test wickets.
Srinath played in four Cricket World Cups - 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2003 - and retired from international cricket after the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
