CYCLING – BAHRAINI cyclist Ahmed Madan finished 18th yesterday in the men’s elite individual time trial at the 43rd Asian Road Cycling Championships, currently taking place in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Madan completed the event’s 40km distance in a time of one hour and 13.574 seconds. He was more than 10 minutes behind gold-medallist Yevgeniy Federov of Kazakhstan, who won in 49:46.418.
His countryman Dmitriy Gruzdev followed in 50:20.851, while Japan’s Yukiya Arashiro captured the bronze medal in 51:46.005.
Madan was part of a field of 19 cyclists in yesterday’s time trial, representing 18 nations.
He is one of two riders flying the kingdom’s flag in the continental competition. The other is Ahmed Hasan.
They are both expected to compete in the men’s elite individual road race, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
The meet in Almaty also features action in the 30th Asian Junior Road Cycling Championships and the 12th Asian Para-cycling Road Championships.
