A rethink has been urged by the government on a proposed parliamentary legislation that would make public representatives, who are not reappointed or re-elected, eligible for financial support of up to BD1,000 for nine months from the Unemployment Fund.
The government, in a written explanation associated with the amendment to the 2006 Insurance Against Unemployment Law presented by MPs in January, raised concerns that adding former public representatives to the list of beneficiaries would drain the fund which should actually benefit jobless people .
