SEVENTEEN elderly sickle cell disease (SCD) patients, some within touching distance of centenarian birthday celebrations, are living proof that people coping with the hereditary condition can live long and fulfilling lives if they take care of themselves and receive community care and health service support.
They were honoured at a special ceremony at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain that also marked the success of the kingdom in raising the average age of sickle cell sufferers to 65 .
