HANDBALL – AL Dair pulled off an upset 29-28 victory over defending champions Al Shabab last night in their Top Eight contest of the 2024-25 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
The Group B clash took place at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam.
Dair held a slim 15-14 advantage at the break and did enough to maintain that gap until the final buzzer.
Dair claimed their first win in their pool in this stage of the league and took one step forward to advancing to the Golden Square semi-finals. They had previously drawn with Al Najma in their opening fixture of this phase.
Shabab, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat after beating Al Ittifaq in their first game.
Today is a rest day but action resumes tomorrow at the same venue with two Group A games on the cards. At 8.45pm, Tubli take on Barbar followed at 10.30pm by Al Tadhamun facing off with Al Ahli.
The Top Eight is being played in a single round for each group, after which the top will move on to the Golden Square.
