HANDBALL – Bahrain’s national handball team secured a narrow 28-26 win over Iraq in their opening match of the 10th Arab Handball Championship, taking place in Kuwait until Sunday.
The tightly contested match saw Bahrain edge ahead 15-13 at half-time and maintain their lead with a solid second-half performance. Hassan Mirza was named Player of the Match for his standout display.
Bahrain will face Egypt in their second group fixture tomorrow at 5pm, as they aim to book a spot in the tournament’s next round.
Meanwhile, Qatar defeated Saudi Arabia 31-22 in a Group B match held at the Sheikh Saad Abdullah Complex.
The first half was closely contested, with both teams displaying strong defensive efforts. Qatar managed to edge ahead by half-time with a 16-12 lead.
In the second half, the Qatari team pulled away, extending their advantage and maintaining control until the final whistle. Goalkeeper Ahmad Magdi was named the best player of the match for his outstanding performance.
