The Saudi Transport General Authority announced on stage during the UJ 2025 AI conference that they are "working towards launching a self-driving taxi project in Riyadh".
Announced by Dr Omaimah Bamasag, the Deputy of Transport Enablement, the project will represent "a qualitative step towards a smart and sustainable future in the transportation sector”.
While the project does not have a clear deadline or launch date, Dr Bamasag confirmed that the Transport Authority has set up a Future Mobility Committee that is already involved in 120 projects, 16 of which relate to transport powered by AI.
