Paralympic Badminton – Bahrain successfully concluded the 2025 International Paralympic Badminton Championship, which attracted athletes from 16 countries and demonstrated its ambition to become a regional centre for inclusive sport.
Held at the Isa bin Rashid Sports Hall, the six-day tournament featured 93 athletes and 27 officials from a variety of countries. This was the fifth time Bahrain had hosted a para-badminton championship of this calibre.
South Korea topped the medal table with seven golds, followed by India with six and Turkiye with one. Brazil, Australia, Portugal, the UAE, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Azerbaijan also took home medals.
Bahrain Paralympic Committee president Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa described the event as a milestone for the development of para-sports in the region.
“This success reflects Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to supporting determined and resilient athletes,” said.
“The kingdom “aims to foster an inclusive and stimulating environment that nurtures their talents and enables them to perform at the highest level.”
The closing ceremony was attended by senior officials, diplomats, and private sector representatives. The programme included musical performances and sponsor tributes, and the Badminton World Federation received a commemorative shield in recognition of its support.
Mahmood Mohammed, the championship’s executive director, said that the event “represents a living testament to the notable progress of para-sports in Bahrain” and contributes to broader efforts to promote the integration of people with disabilities into society through sport.
Participating delegations and observers praised the organisation of the championship, the standard of competition, and Bahrain’s hospitality. Many described the event as a model for future international para-sport tournaments.
