A Khaleeji man lost KD 24,750 (BD 30,390) while trying to pay his KD 6 (BD 7.4) phone bill.
According to the victim, he intended to pay his phone bill online. He decided to Google the telecom company's website when he mistakenly clicked a fraudulent site that resembled the legitimate one.
He then entered his account number, bank name, password, and KD 6 before the website told him the transaction could not be completed. Within minutes, scammers got hold of his account and managed to withdraw KD 24,750 before he called the bank and got them to block the card while the fraudsters tried to withdraw more.
A report has been filed with the Kuwaiti Commercial Affairs and Prosecution Office, and the case remains under investigation.
