The next-generation SUV BAIC BJ40 Pro recently made its first regional appearance during an automotive showcase at City Centre Bahrain.
This week, BAIC’s exclusive Bahrain dealership, International Motor Trading Agency (IMTA), kicked off the 10-day automotive showcase with the regional debut of two major models – the all-new BJ40 Pro and the BJ30 Hybrid.
Car enthusiasts, families, and industry professionals attended the launch, alongside senior officials from BAIC and IMTA, including the marquee’s GCC region manager Zhang Ying (Ms Sophia), country manager for Bahrain Eric Wang, and KE Kanoo Group and IMTA’s newly appointed operations director Angad Singh.
“We are thrilled to introduce the BJ40 Pro here in Bahrain,” said Ms Sophia during the unveiling.
“With its intelligent 4WD system, 2.0-litre turbo engine and industry-leading five-screen cockpit, it represents a true leap forward in both technology and capability.
“We believe this SUV will redefine what drivers expect—from urban commutes to off-road adventures.”
BAIC, established in 1958 and ranked 162nd on the Fortune Global 500, brings decades of automotive craftsmanship to the BJ40 Pro.
Positioned as a next-generation SUV, the BJ40 Pro blends performance with intelligent design. The highlight of the vehicle is its unique five-screen cockpit, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch central touchscreen, co-driver entertainment screen of the same size, a 9-inch streaming rear-view mirror, and a 1.92-inch start-button screen, together offering an immersive and highly interactive panoramic experience.
Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, the BJ40 Pro delivers 242 horsepower and 386 Nm of torque.
Its 2760 mm wheelbase, 220 mm ground clearance, and intelligent four-wheel drive ensure it performs with equal ease on city streets and rugged terrain.
Additional features include a 400-watt trunk power outlet, ideal for outdoor adventures, and a full suite of safety technologies such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera system, and Roll Movement Intervention (RMI) anti-rollover protection.
“Bringing the BJ40 Pro and BJ30 Hybrid to City Centre demonstrates our commitment to innovation and customer engagement in Bahrain,” Mr Singh added.
Also debuting at the event was the BJ30 Hybrid, a fuel-efficient alternative tailored for urban lifestyles.
With electric-assisted drive, the BJ30 balances low emissions and everyday practicality, while maintaining the Chinese marquee’s hallmark durability and safety suite, and sharing many of the same infotainment and comfort features as its larger sibling. The IMTA BAIC exhibition runs until June 1 on City Centre Bahrain’s Level 1 near Entrance C. Visitors can explore the new models, chat with the BAIC team, and view live demonstrations.
