Bahrain have suffered a disheartening 0-1 defeat to China in their concluding fixture of the third round of Asian qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Wang Yudong fired in a penalty for the hosts in the third minute of second-half stoppage time after Bahrain substitute Hussain Al Eker was called for a hand ball just seconds after coming on as a substitute on the stroke of regulation.
Wang’s spot kick was enough to separate the two sides and give his team the full three points on qualification’s Group C table.
The Bahrainis thus ended the continental qualifiers with six points from six losses in 10 matches, to go with just one win and three draws.
