BASKETBALL – THE kingdom’s all-Bahraini team in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour are set to make history today competing in their first-ever Masters competition in Hong Kong.
Seef made their historic debut last week in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour at the lower-tier Orleans Challenger in France, and today will be making the step up.
Basketball’s premier street series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) features events of different levels, with Masters tournaments being the top-tier.
Their quartet of Sayed Mohammed Hameed, Sadeq Shukrallah, Hassan Fahad, and Nasser Al Mosawi, who are coached by Serbian tactician Bogdan Dragovic, have arrived in the Far East and will today play two games in the preliminary round.
Seef are in Pool B alongside French outfit Toulouse and Skyliners from Germany. Pool A features Ub of Serbia, Kandava Turiba of Latvia, and Hong Kong; Pool C is composed of Amsterdam Rabobank of the Netherlands, Partizan of Serbia, and one of two squads from the qualifying draw; and Pool D comprises Miami of the US, Chongming of China, and the second qualifier.
Six sides are competing in qualification, which has been divided into two groups. Group A is composed of Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy of Mongolia, Shanghai of China, and Milan of Italy; while Group B features Hangzhou and Guangzhou STR Revo, both of China, as well as Doha of Qatar.
Seef begin their campaign against Toulouse at 4.20pm today and then face off with Skyliners in their other fixture at 9.20pm. Both times are Bahrain.
Bahrain’s other representatives on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour, Riffa, are not competing in Hong Kong but will be playing in the Pristina Challenger 2025 in Kosovo. The meeting also acts as a qualifier for the Lausanne Masters in Switzerland, scheduled for August 15 and 16.
Riffa will be competing with a squad that features Belgians Dennis Donkor, Vic Van Oosterwyck, and Andrej Cuyvers, and Bahraini Mohammed Kowayed. They are in Pool C alongside NY Harlem from the US and one of the two teams who will make it from the qualifying bracket.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 has already held Masters events in Japan, China, the Netherlands, France, Austria, and Mongolia, with other events also set to be held in Canada, Switzerland, Hungary, China, Macau, and the UAE before heading to Bahrain for the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 finale on November 21 and 22.
