CRICKET – Bahrain enjoyed back-to-back victories yesterday in their Tri-Nation Series in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Bahrainis continued their impressive run in the event, showcasing their depth in both batting and bowling in wins against the hosts by 114 runs and then against Malawi by eight wickets.
In their opening match yesterday against Rwanda, Bahrain posted a commanding total of 163/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to contributions from opener Prashant Kurup (53 off 34) and Asif Ali (23 off 23). The middle order chipped in with quick runs, ensuring a strong finish.
In response, Rwanda struggled against Bahrain’s disciplined bowling, consistently losing wickets as they could not even reach 50 runs, being bowled out for 49.
Ali Dawood had four wickets for only five runs in a vital contribution for Bahrain while Muhammad Rizwan had three wickets for nine runs. Imran Khan and Abdul Majid both picked a wicket each.
Playing in their second match of the day, Bahrain chased down a target of 114 with ease, losing only two wickets in 16.3 overs.
Kurup (47 off 46) anchored the innings, while Ali had a quickfire (28 off 18) effort with captain Ahmer Bin Nasir in the middle order. Sohail Ahmed with Kurup provided the finishing touches.
Earlier, Khan and Dawood both took two wickets each. The only stand out batter for Rwanda was captain Sami Sohail 37 (33), and in the bowling department Chisomo Tchale (1/14) and Suhail Vayani (1/18) were the only wicket-takers for Malawi.
