FOOTBALL – Sitra Club were yesterday confirmed as Bahrain’s representatives in the 2025-26 Gulf Club Champions League.
The roster of eight participating clubs from across the region was announced yesterday by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF). The upcoming competition will mark its second edition in its current format.
The announcement comes as part of ongoing preparations for the launch of the second edition of the tournament, which aims to enhance football competition between Gulf clubs and provide a professional platform for exchanging technical expertise and developing the game’s level in the region.
The other teams taking part are Al Ain from the UAE, Al Shabab from Saudi Arabia, Zakho from Iraq, Al Nahda from Oman, Al Rayyan from Qatar, Al Qadsia from Kuwait, and Al Tadamun Hadramaut from Yemen.
Iraqi club Zakho’s nomination follows a distinguished domestic season.
Sitra are flying the kingdom’s flag in the championship after finishing an impressive third amongst 12 teams in the 2024-25 Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Iraqi club Duhok SC had won the inaugural edition of the Gulf Club Champions League defeating Kuwait’s Al Qadisiyah SC 2-1 in the second leg of the final, following a goalless draw in the first leg.
Riffa were the kingdom’s representatives from last year’s competition. They did not make it out of the group stage, winning two of their six matches, while drawing twice and losing two other times.
From last year’s participants, only Qadsia are returning.
Sitra, coached by Isa Al Saadoun, have already begun their local training sessions ahead of their upcoming 2025-26 season.
