Saudi Arabia is launching a spiritual experience that aims to recreate the historic migration trail that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took between Mecca and Medina.
During the early days of Islam, the Prophet (PBUH) and a group of his followers fled persecution in Mecca on a three-month-long journey to Medina in 622 AD, a journey that would become known as the most consequential in Islamic history.
The project, known as "In the Prophet's Steps," aims to recreate the 470 km route using advanced technology, retracing the Prophet's footsteps (PBUH) through restored landscapes and historical sites along the path. The route will feature 41 landmarks, 30 restaurants, 50 shops, and a dedicated Migration Museum.
305 km of the route will be entirely walkable, with the remainder assisted by specially designed 4x4 vehicles to traverse the more rugged areas of the route.
Over one million have already registered since the project's announcement last February, with Saudi Arabia aiming to welcome over 300,000 visitors in the inaugural season and possessing a capacity to handle 12,000 visitors per day.
