Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with Zhai Jun, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East issue on the sidelines of the high-level Ministerial session of the United Nations (UN) Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-state Solution at the UN headquarters in New York.
The meeting reviewed bilateral ties between the GCC countries and the People's Republic of China, exploring ways to enhance them in the service of common interests. Additionally, the outcomes of the trilateral summit involving the GCC, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the People's Republic of China were reviewed.
Additionally, views were exchanged on the developments of the Palestinian issue and the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
The Secretary General commended the efforts made by China to support the Palestinian cause, its standing with the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, and its sincere efforts to promote stability and a just peace in the region.
The two sides also emphasised the exertion of all efforts and means to assist the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza, to deliver relief and medical aid to them urgently and immediately, and to intensify joint efforts to achieve security and peace.
