BOWLING – BAHRAIN’S Ali Al Awadhi, Abdulkarim Al Jahromi, Faisal Bader, and Rashid Al Dalhan had a solid showing yesterday to begin the boys’ team of four competition in the 24th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships, currently being held in Doha, Qatar.
The talented young quartet posted a total of 1,912 pins over their opening three games as part of the first block of play. They had scores of 644, 681, and 587.
Action in the teams of four continues today with the second block, set for another three games.
Al Dalhan had the highest individual score yesterday amongst the Bahraini youngsters with a 504 total from games of 198, 179, and 127 pins. Bader followed with a 473 total (175, 144, 154), while Al Jahromi posted a 468 score (125, 181, 162) and Al Awadhi had 467 pins (146, 177, 144).
The nationals ranked 13th amongst the 15 teams that took to the lanes.
Malaysia’s A squad topped the first block’s rankings with a 2,719 total, followed by Kuwait A with 2,697. Qatar B were third on a 2,670 total.
Meanwhile, earlier in the championships, the doubles and singles events were already held.
In the doubles, Bader and Al Dalhan ranked 28th with a 2,052 total from their six games, while Al Awadhi and Al Jahromi followed in 29th with a 1,869 score.
In singles play, Bader finished as the national team’s top-ranked bowler in 54th with a 999 total and a 166.50 average after six games. Al Dalhan was 56th with marks of 983 and 163.83, while Al Awadhi (883, 147.17) and Al Jahromi (876, 146.00) were 58th and 59th, respectively.
Bahrain’s players are being guided in the tournament by national team coach Mohammed Janahi, while the kingdom’s delegation is headed by Bahrain Bowling Association secretary general Issa Taqi.
Following the completion of the teams’ events today, the masters will be held tomorrow and Saturday.
Bahrain are one of 11 national teams taking part in the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) event. The others are China, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and hosts Qatar.
There are a total of 79 players in the fray, including 59 boys and 20 girls.
