Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has affirmed that justice is fundamental to both citizenship and statehood, stressing that there can be no reform or rule of law without accountability.
Speaking during a panel discussion yesterday addressing the aftermath of the Beirut Port explosion, Salam said, “There will be no compromise at the expense of justice,” and pledged that the state will uncover the truth behind the blast.
“We will press ahead with the adoption of legislation to guarantee judicial independence. No one is above questioning or accountability,” he added.
Nawaf also reiterated the government’s commitment to building a strong, sovereign state capable of ending Israeli aggression and asserting full authority over its territory.
Despite the passage of five years since the Beirut Port explosion, which killed more than 220 people and injured thousands, the investigation remains ongoing, with no conclusions announced to date.
