The family of Saudi student Mohammed Yousef Al Qassim who was stabbed to death in in a park south of Cambridge in the UK released a statement confirming that funeral prayers will be held at the Grand Mosque in Mecca today, after Friday prayers, with burial to follow at the Al Shuhada Cemetery in Al Shara’i district.
The 20-year-old student died after receiving a 11.5cm deep stab wound to the neck. The attacker has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed weapon.
Al Qassim was attacked at around 11.30pm local time, last Friday while returning to his residence. He was studying at the EF International Language School in Cambridge.
The school has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss of one of its students. “We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our students sustained fatal injuries on Friday evening in a public place,” the school said.
The Saudi embassy in London is closely following the case.
