LONDON - Friday's talks in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin present a viable chance to make progress on ending the war in Ukraine, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement, issued following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at Starmer's Downing Street office, said: "They agreed there had been a powerful sense of unity and a strong resolve to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
"They then looked ahead to tomorrow's talks between President Trump and President Putin in Alaska, which present a viable chance to make progress as long as Putin takes action to prove he is serious about peace."
Zelenskiy was in London on Thursday to shore up European support for efforts to prevent any agreement on ending the war in Ukraine that would carve up Ukrainian land.
