FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S under-17 football national team posted a 3-2 victory over their counterparts from FK Sarajevo last night in a friendly match played as part of their ongoing overseas training camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hussain Zuhair supplied a brace for the Bahrainis, which followed an opening goal scored by Mohammed Salah.
The nationals are in Sarajevo gearing up for their upcoming competitions, headlined by the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers in November. Their camp is being held under the supervision of head coach Ugo Klingor from Croatia.
Yesterday’s tune-up was the first of four during their trip. They next go up against FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo on Thursday, before playing the host nation’s youth squad on Monday next week and then again on August 28. The nationals are then scheduled to return to the kingdom the next day.
The AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers are scheduled for November 22 to 30. Bahrain have been drawn in Group A, to be held in China, alongside the hosts, Bangladesh, Brunei, Timor-Leste, and Sri Lanka.
The 38-nation field has been divided into seven groups – each to be held at a centralised location. They will be vying for just seven available places for the tournament proper, to be held from May 7 to 24 in Saudi Arabia next year.
