An Indian woman in the UAE has been awarded AED 1 million (BD 100,000) in compensation after a 2023 road accident in Dubai left her with partial paralysis.
Rehmathbi Mamad Sali was struck by a car while crossing the road, resulting in a spinal fracture, a brain hemorrhage, and partial paralysis in her right arm and leg.
Investigations found the Emirati driver was negligent and was fined DH 3,000 (BD 300). Sali was also fined DH 1,000 (BD 100) for jaywalking.
However, Sali's family sought legal assistance and filed a compensation claim against the driver's insurance company. After a lengthy legal process, the court ruled that she was entitled to the compensation and ordered the insurance company to pay her AED 1 million.
