Moroccan rapper ElGrande Toto has stirred controversy with his performance at the first Kenitra Festival.
His act was critically described by observers as "catastrophic" and "immoral," attributed mainly to his repeated use of vulgar lyrics.
A formal complaint was filed, as the lyrics were reportedly audible beyond the festival grounds, reaching nearby neighbourhoods.
The Spring of Cinema Association has initiated legal proceedings, submitting a lawsuit that accuses ElGrande Toto of public indecency and of violating the expected standards for state-sponsored events.
In response to these developments, the rapper released videos online where he criticised the association, using insults and declaring his intent to move to France rather than face the legal proceedings.
ElGrande Toto is not new to controversies. At the Mawazine Festival, his lyrical content led to over 190 complaints being filed with the audio-visual authority, HACA, which later dismissed them.
In 2022, he faced criticism after admitting to cannabis use during a press conference organised by the Culture Ministry.
