A family in the US was surprised to receive a bill for $5000 (approx. BD1,885) after they sat in a hospital emergency waiting room, and left without actually meeting a doctor.
Nathan Jachimiec took his 11-year-old son Ian to Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room in San Jose after he broke out in a rash.
The couple had given him over-the-counter medication before taking him to the hospital.
Jachimiec told ABC News 7 that a doctor never saw his son; they just waited in the room for a while and saw that his son’s condition seemed to improve.
As the family decided to leave, a nurse handed them a printed paper that contained written instructions to continue giving him the medication the couple had previously administered.
"The triage nurse then gave me this printout and then we went home," said Jachimiec.
The family received a bill later, stating that they owed the hospital a whopping $5,000 for doctor’s consultation.
"My son was never even seen by a doctor," said Jachimiec.
The bill was later waived off as the family reached out to a local news station for help.
In a statement to ABC News 7, who reached out on behalf of the family, a spokesperson for Good Samaritan Hospital said, "Once we were made aware of the patient's situation, our team acted quickly to resolve the matter."
