Carrefour is closing all of its branches in Kuwait after previously shutting down in Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan.
The French retail brand has been rapidly retreating from the GCC, with surprise announcements of closure often made just a day before being replaced by Majid Al Futtaim's HyperMax.
The Dubai-based group previously held exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in the Middle East. No explanation was given for the French brand's swift exit; however, the move aligned with the recent rollout of HyperMax throughout the region.
HyperMax replaced Carrefour in Jordan in November 2024. Over the past year, it has gradually been establishing itself in the region before replacing Carrefour branches in Oman, Bahrain, and now Kuwait.
