Aisha Rashid, a Pakistani woman who lives with her 65 rescued cats in a Dubai apartment, is now facing eviction after her property management company demanded she get rid of all the cats.
The 39-year-old first started feeding stray cats during the COVID-19 pandemic and then decided to fully take care of them as time went on, according to a Gulf News report. She adopted and now lives with 65 cats in her two-bedroom apartment, funding all their costs from her salary.
Most of the cats she takes care of suffer from health conditions ranging from blindness to broken bones. She spends over AED31,000 (BD3,100) annually just to accommodate her cats.
The property management company was not amused by her decision to take care of the cats and decided to impose fines on her. “They said the day you remove your cats, we will remove the AED8,000 (BD800) fine. Otherwise, you must pay the fine and leave the house, even though I have paid the rent till December,” she said.
Despite the circumstances, she remains committed to taking care of the animals and is now seeking desperate help to accommodate the cats.
She now faces a deadline of October 2 to either remove the animals or lose her home.
