PREPARATIONS have begun to mark World Diabetes Day 2025 under the theme ‘Diabetes and Quality of Life’.
The event is being held under the directives of Supreme Council for Health and Bahrain Diabetes Society chairman Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Royal Medical Services commander Brigadier Dr Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, from November 13 to 15 at Seef Mall, Manama.
“The annual event aims to raise health awareness about the dangers of diabetes and encourage community members to adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent the disease and limit its complications,” said a statement yesterday.
“It also highlights treatment methods and safe living with the disease, given the health challenge and economic burden diabetes poses to individuals and society.”
A select group of consultant physicians, nurses and specialists in the field of diabetes and healthcare from various hospitals and health centres across the kingdom will take part in the event, along with medical universities such as the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain, the Arabian Gulf University, the World Health Organisation’s regional office in Bahrain, and volunteers from the Bahrain Diabetes Society.
Exhibition
The programme will include a health awareness exhibition with various booths offering blood sugar, blood pressure, eye and foot tests, in addition to stations dedicated to childhood diabetes, nutrition and sports.
“The goal is to empower the community to prevent, particularly, Type 2 diabetes, which is associated with obesity and lack of physical activity,” added the statement.
A mobile paediatric unit will also participate in spreading awareness among young people, in addition to organising a storytelling competition for children with diabetes titled “Me and Diabetes”, encouraging them to express their feelings and experiences with the disease. The winners will be honoured at the conclusion of the event.
“The programme also includes a walking marathon aimed at promoting a culture of exercise as a fundamental pillar of diabetes prevention.
“This event embodies a message of hope and support for every patient and their family, and an opportunity to foster a spirit of community solidarity to enable children and adults alike to live safely with diabetes.
“These efforts also align with the kingdom’s vision to advance healthcare services and improve quality of life, reflecting the commitment of national institutions to addressing health challenges and consolidating Bahrain’s position as a leading model in the field of integrated care and community awareness.”
