A groom in Abu Dhabi had his claim dismissed by the court after he sued a hotel for Dh100,000 (approximately BD10,000), claiming that high temperatures in the wedding hall ruined his special day.
The plaintiff sued a hotel company, requesting the return of Dh50,000, the amount he paid under the wedding contract, and an additional Dh50,000 in compensation for emotional and material damages.
According to a Gulf News report, the groom claimed the temperature inside the hall was uncomfortably high and the food served did not meet the agreed-upon standards.
The claimant stated that the experience caused him distress and embarrassment in front of his guests.
He requested a refund from the hotel as they allegedly failed to meet their contractual obligations, but was refused compensation.
The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court dismissed the lawsuit, stating that the case was inadmissible due to an agreed-upon arbitration clause in the contract between the claimant and the hotel, and ordered the groom to pay legal costs and lawyers’ fees.
