An American woman who's on maternity leave after giving birth just five months ago managed to kill a 12-foot alligator during a family hunting trip.
Brittany Livingston, a South Carolina native, mum of two, recently went viral after videos of her family driving through a McDonald's drive-thru with a gigantic alligator in the back of their truck were posted online.
“We had a lot of eyes on us. People were waving, giving thumbs up…even the workers at McDonald’s came outside to see it,” Brittany told WCSC.
South Carolina awards alligator hunting tags every year through a lottery system run by the state's Department of Natural Resources. Brittany and her husband Matt Livingston say they've been planning the hunt for the last five years.
But each year, over 12,000 people apply for the hunting tags, with only 1,400 tags available. The couple weren't picked for the last five years, but finally got called up this year. Even though she was on maternity leave, she wasn't going to let this opportunity pass, though she admitted that alligator hunting isn't exactly “something most people do on maternity leave.”
The couple bagged the 12-foot, 270kg alligator, nicknamed "Chomp Norris", after hunting it through the marshlands for several hours.
The couple were quick to assure that they would make use of the entire alligator to teach their children about the importance of honouring nature.
“We wouldn’t hunt anything if we weren’t going to eat it. We respect the wildlife just as much, and we want it to still be here for our kids,” said Matt.
The Livingstons plan to make a full-body rug out of the alligator and harvest the meat to cook sausages and snack sticks.
