BASKETBALL – Bahrain were last night crowned double champions in the Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) U21 3x3 Championships, which came to a close at Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH) in Manama.
The Bahraini quartet of Bayan Salman, Aya Kamali, Noor Najaf, and Bayan Marhoon, clinched the title in the women’s competition, while the Bahrain B foursome of Mahdi Hubail, Mishal Mohammed, Hassan Ali Ghareeb, and Hamad Faisal won the crown in the men’s tournament.
Presenting the winners their respective trophies and medals were Bahrain Olympic Committee vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and Bahrain Basketball Association president Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Meanwhile, two of Bahrain’s stars were named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in their respective competitions.
Salman was honoured as the women’s MVP while Faisal claimed the men’s MVP. They both received trophies for their individual brilliance.
The women’s squad secured first place after powering past Qatar 21-8 in their final.
They had earlier in the day routed Kuwait 21-5 in their semi-final, where the Qataris won 5-2 against Oman.
The Omanis claimed third place amongst the women after beating Kuwait 9-7 in their classification contest.
On the distaff, Bahrain’s B men’s team beat their Qatari counterparts in their title-decider 18-14.
They secured their berth in the final with a narrow 17-16 triumph over Oman B, while Qatar prevented an all-Bahrain championship game after upsetting the kingdom’s A side 16-15.
Bahrain A were able to come away with the bronze medals with a 16-14 triumph over Oman B.
The GBA U21 3x3 Championships were held for the first time by the GBA and were organised in cooperation with the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA).
The event was part of an action-packed week of 3x3 basketball at BFH – to be headlined by the Manama Final, taking place today and tomorrow as the season-ending event of the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025.
