The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the first meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held from November 17 to 21, 2025, in its capacity as a member of the board for the period 2025–2027.
Saudi Arabia’s participation underscores its active role in advancing peaceful nuclear work, focusing through its board membership on promoting peaceful energy use, enabling developing countries’ access to nuclear technologies, and strengthening international efforts to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.
The IAEA Board of Governors comprises 35 member states and oversees the implementation of the IAEA’s policies and programs, reviews its budget and operational plans, and approves safety and security standards.
Saudi Arabia is represented on the board by its Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna Dr. Abdullah bin Khaled Toula.
