HORSERACING – AL Mohamediya Racing’s four-year-old gelding Western lifted last night the Al Raffah Media Cup, which wrapped up a packed eight-race card at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was in attendance, along with Prime Minister’s Court Minister and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with other high-ranking officials.
Western took the day’s eighth and final race, run over a 1,200-metre straight with BD3,000 in total prize money, for trainer Ali Abdulmajeed and with jockey Jason Hart in the saddle. They finished a length-and-a-quarter ahead of runner-up Dream Out Loud, racing for owner Hasan Mefareh Alajmi, trainer Jaber Ramadhan, and jockey Alberto Sanna, while Ibn Arabi came third for Al Nasser Syndicate, Ali Nasser, and Rosei Jessop. The Thin Blue Line was fourth for Mohamediya and Abdulmajeed, while ridden by Hussain Asghar, completing the race’s prize winners.
The Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Hart triumvirate also claimed a fine victory last night in the seventh race for the NAD Holding Cup, held over 2,200m with BD3,000 in winnings.
Hart steered Hot Dancer to a narrow win by a half-length ahead of Al Shababi, competing for Al Adiyat Racing, Daniel and Claire Kubler, and Ebrahim Nader. Glen Savage was third for Al Mallah Racing, Abduljaleel Al Mallah, and Benoit De La Sayette, while in fourth was Sky Advocate, running for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hasan Al Saffar.
Also yesterday, Athan, competing for Gulf Racing Club, won the Celebrate Bahrain Cup in race five, held over 1,800m with BD3,000 up for the taking. Athan took first place for trainer Fawzi Nass and Sanna by a half-length’s margin from Vestigia in second, running for Al Afoo Racing, Ramadhan, and Ebrahim Nader. Bussento came third for Mohamediya, Nass, and Hart, while in fourth was Carnegie Hall for Afoo, Ramadhan, and Mirko Sanna.
Meanwhile, Hattaab won race six (2,200m and BD2,000 in prize money) for Shaikh Salman bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Nader; Asaaff won race four (1,600m, BD2,000) for Shaikh Salman, Kuwaiti, and Alberto Sanna; Call of Duty triumphed in race three (1,200m, BD2,000) for M and E Racing, Paul Smith, and Lee Newman; South China won race two (1,400m, BD2,000) for Adiyat, the Kublers, and Nader; and Obeyan 1893 took race one (1,400m, BD1,500) for Al Wasmiya, Kuwaiti, and Nader.
