HORSERACING – SOVEREIGN Spirit, owned by Al Afoo Racing, claimed the Alba Cup yesterday in the 11th event of the season at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC).
Trained by Jaber Ramadhan and ridden by Benoit de la Sayette, Sovereign Spirit secured a thrilling victory in the 2,000 metres race for imported horses edging past Wave Rider of Victorious Forever. In third position was Westridge of Al Adiyat Racing.
Yesterday’s races were witnessed by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prime Minister’s Court Minister and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for the Environment deputy chairman and REHC High Committee deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
Earlier, Bussento of Al Mohamediya Racing secured the Alba Eternal Cup outpacing Jehangeer, also of Al Mohamediya Racing. Dream Out Loud, owned by Hasan Mefareh Alajmi, powered past Blue Day, of Victorious Forever, to clinch the Aluminum for the World Sprint Cup. Sharkii, of Al Sharq Racing, bagged the Alba Handicap Sprint Cup moving past Ra’s Al Hadd, owned by Jawad A. Wahid Ahmed.
Zeeshaan, owned by Fateel Brothers Syndicate, emerged winner in the race for the Alba Bahrain Bred Handicap Cup, seeing off Mister Dollar, of Al Mohamediya Racing.
Golden Arrow, of Al Hermes Racing, claimed victory in the race for Alba Rising Stars Cup while Obeyan 1893, owned by Al Wasmiya, emerged winner in the opening race of the day, for the Alba Arabian Cup.
The concluding race of the day, for the Alba Equine Excellence Cup, was won by Ezz AlBahrain, of Al Jasmi Stable.
